Sometimes the most visually striking moments in life occur as people happen by completely unaware. Moments such as these often require little more than a second look or a small amount of inquisitiveness to be appreciated. The droplet series is an attempt to portray just such a moment. This is a common visual that everyone has witnessed; water specked, streaked, and streaming down a glass surface. Every rain storm produces this kind of aesthetic in different contexts and it is up to the artist and the viewer to appreciate what can be remarkable colors, contrasts, highlights, shadows, etc.
These pieces are quite simply an investigation into the outside: How does afternoon light glance off trees or water? How vibrant can clouds be? What does driving to Moosehead Lake or up to Humboldt County or through the Bolivian high desert look like?

Living things make great art! It is easy to be warmed up by seeing a happy Chocolate Lab or a large fire-red flower. These images are about the living things we surround ourselves with!

Near and Far is an examination of elements in my life both on a macro and a micro level. Using local (backyard) floral life intertwined with spaces and places that bear sentimental qualities the aim is to develop an autobiographical body of work. The work illustrates a kinship with physical geography and an appreciation of nature and the power of open space on a grand scale. Consequently, an appreciation of close-up aesthetic moments that occur when life is "zoomed in upon" is happening as well. The notion that events in our lives both near and far, current and past, intimate and vast is the prevailing theme with this series.
